Pride of the Pinstripes Vol. 3
Yankees fans, I know it’s hard, but uncover your ears for a minute and listen. The New York Yankees are not going to win a World Series this year or next. And in those two years, they might not even make the playoffs. And at the very least they will only be contending for a Wild Card spot. The current Yankees are in no shape to contend for a Division title, let alone a Championship; so sit back and relax, and watch the young crop grow. It will be painful, and it will involve getting out of the “win now” mindset. Embrace the mediocrity that is the current Yankee team and be ready for what’s to come. And along the way, remember this, the Yankees have been here before, and the end result was a dynasty.
This Yankee team looks similar if not slightly better than the Yankees in the early to mid-90’s. When win totals did not eclipse ninety games. In those years, the Yankees were growing a crop of young stars. A crop that given the two to three years they were given to grow to potential in the Yankee organization came to Big Leagues and showed just what a homegrown product can do when given the proper time to develop. This crop became known as the Core Four. Two potent hitters, an ace, and a shutdown reliever. The homegrown products of Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitie, and Mariano Rivera brought the organization back to glory, winning four World Series in five years from 1996 to 2000.
For the past couple years the Yankees have been a face of mediocrity. Winning no more than 87 games and only vying for a Wild Card spot in October. And in those years, the Yankees have been growing some of their young talent and acquiring a new young crop to add to the old one.
And not to mention, the projected year that many of these young studs come up to the Show full time is the same year that will see a historic free agent class with the likes of Bryce Harper, Manny Machado and potentially Clayton Kershaw...to name a few. On top of all that, the winter, which would be the winter of 2018, the Yankees would also rid themselves of some salary space (most notably the contract of Alex Rodriguez) which could make huge strides toward having room to sign some big name players to unheard of contracts. Contracts similar to that of Giancarlo Stanton...if not greater. And with the likely additions that offseason combined with the young studs coming to the league, the Yankees could once again, rise to the top.
If history repeats itself, this young crop of Yankees could lead to the resurgence of the dynasty that was last seen in the late 1990’s. And with the help of potential superstar signings, it’s a dynasty that could last for a long time.
